Approval of a Mutual Aid Interlocal Agreement Between the City of Lewisville and Denton County for the Use of the Frederick P. Herring Parks and Recreation Center During a Disaster.

ADMINISTRATIVE COMMENTS:

Recovery operations following a disaster may include opening a center to provide emergency assistance to victims. This emergency assistance may be provided through any combination of three integrated elements: (1) temporary shelters, reunification centers, and family assistance centers; (2) mobile rescue operations and transport; and (3) distribution of temporary shelter relief supplies. Denton County has the equipment, personnel, and experience to manage these operations and desires to secure a mutual aid interlocal agreement (ILA) with Lewisville to use the Fred Herring Parks and Recreation Center as an emergency assistance center if a disaster occurs in this area. Under this ILA, the County would make a written request to use the facility, but the City retains the sole discretion to determine the facility’s availability before activating this agreement in response to a disaster.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Council approve the agreement as set forth in the caption above.
